County seeks responses to Solano Fairgrounds plan
September 16, 2011
FAIRFIELD — Long in the works, a plan to redevelop the Solano County Fairgrounds is taking shape.
The county has sent a notice of preparation of a draft environmental impact report for the project. It plans to develop a draft specific plan simultaneously with the draft environmental report.
In the meantime, the county wants to hear from interested parties concerning the scope and content of the environmental information. Responses should be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to Ron Grassi, principal management analyst for the county at 675 Texas St., Suite 6500 in Fairfield.
The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 10. An environmental scoping meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Vallejo City Hall, 555 Santa Clara St.
Earlier this month, a committee approved a map for the project based on an initial description. That description calls for dividing the 149 acres into a new entertainment venue to complement Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, open space, a transit center and parking. About 40 acres would be used for the new fairgrounds, including the exhibit hall.
Retail uses and hotels were originally envisioned for the site, but a financial analysis found that would not be viable in the near future.
The initial project description with potential environment effects can be viewed at http://admin.solanocounty.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?blobid=11773.
