UPDATED: Senior Coalition photo contest celebrates seniors

Photos are wanted to capture the essence, beauty and diversity of older adults in Solano County.

The Senior Coalition of Solano County is hosting a photo contest for photographers of all ages to showcase seniors and their connections to the community.

“We hope this photo contest will engage residents of all ages in the celebration of the essence, beauty and diversity of our elders in Solano County,” said Rochelle Sherlock, Senior Coalition consultant.

Photos in any electronic format can be submitted by 9 p.m. on May 8, 2014 to in the following categories:

·         Essence – This category is whatever the photographer chooses it to be that best captures the essence of the individual or individuals being photographed.

·         Diversity – The older adult population in Solano County is incredibly diverse culturally, ethnically, by age, and in life style choices and interests. This category is intended to capture and celebrate the diversity of all of the older adults.

·         Intergenerational – This category is intended to capture older adults with members from younger generations.

Entries in electronic format can also be mailed to Senior Photo Contest at P.O. Box 3069, Vallejo, CA 94590.

Each photo must include an image (or partial image) of someone who is 60 years or older. There is a limit of three photographs per category for a total of nine photos per photographer.  Both the senior and the photographer must be Solano County residents.

Photographs will be judged in three contestant categories: youth (18 and under), amateur (age 19 and older), and professional photographers.

A grand prize winner will be selected from each of the three contestant categories. Winners in the youth and amateur category will receive a digital photo frame. Professional grand prize winner will receive a $250 Visa/American Express card.
