Assistant County Administrator Veronica Ferguson announced today she has accepted the county administrator's position in Sonoma County. Ferguson will begin her new duties Feb. 1.
"The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors made an excellent choice in selecting Veronica to be their new county administrator. She has made a valuable contribution to Solano County over the years and will be missed," said County Administrator Michael D. Johnson.
In her nearly seven-year tenure at Solano County, Ferguson served as the director of General Services for three years and the assistant county administrator since 2006. She helped manage the construction of the County Government Center and the Twin Campus projects; worked with the Solano Economic Development Corporation and seven communities to develop an award-winning shared economic development framework; and strengthened the County’s state and federal legislative program that has returned millions of dollars to Solano County.
“I have had a wonderful experience in Solano County and will miss the nearly 2,800 county professionals who make this an exceptional county by giving their all every day,” Ferguson said. “As I move on to Sonoma, I will always draw upon my time here and this county’s focus on fiscal responsibility and accountability, values-based programming and results-oriented leadership.”
Before coming to Solano, Ferguson worked in several increasingly responsible positions in Monterey County from 1979 to 2003, including administrative analyst, LAFCO executive officer, assistant county administrative officer, executive director of the Monterey County Leadership Institute, and acting county administrative officer.
“Ms. Ferguson brings a tremendous amount of experience and ability to Sonoma County,” said Sonoma County Board Chairman Paul Kelley. “She possesses exactly the kind of leadership and management skills we need as we move forward into the next decade. We are extremely pleased to have hired a person of her caliber.”
