|About Us|CHILD HEALTH & DISABILITY PREVENTION (CHDP) PROGRAM
The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program is a preventive health program serving Solano County's infants, children and teens.
Many infants, children and teens in Solano County have unmet health needs. Through the CHDP program, eligible infants, children and teens receive periodic preventive health assessments. Infants, children and teens with suspected problems are then referred for diagnosis and treatment. Many health problems can be prevented or corrected, or the severity reduced, by early detection and prompt diagnosis and treatment.
CHDP works with a wide range of health care providers and organizations to ensure that eligible infants, children and teens receive appropriate services. These CHDP providers include private physicians, local health departments, schools, dentists and community clinics.

The CHDP Gateway
The CHDP Gateway is a way to help uninsured children get health insurance. Uninsured children can get their CHDP exam and may be enrolled into temporary Medi-Cal.
This health insurance coverage is only temporary. A parent or guardian must complete a joint Medi-Cal/Healthy Families application to continue this health insurance coverage.
A CHDP doctor may refer your child for routine or necessary dental care that may be paid by Denti-Cal for eligible children.
Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care
The Solano County CHDP program also administers a public health nursing program for children in foster care known as the Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care (HCPCFC). The HCPCFC public health nurse works with Solano County Child Welfare Services and Probation to address the medical, dental, mental and developmental needs of children in foster care.

CHDP School Entry Requirements
California law requires that all children entering the first grade have either a certificate of a health assessment or a waiver on file at the school in which they enroll. The CHDP program works with the Department of Education in administering and monitoring the requirements of having a completed health assessment 18 months before or up to 90 days after enrolling in first grade. The CHDP program assists families to meet the requirements by providing eligible children with free health assessments.
