Online Quality and Price Ratings for Maternity
and Other Medical Care:
A new price and quality transparency website developed by
the California Department of Insurance, University of California
San Francisco, and Consumer Reports, California Healthcare Compare,
has just gone live.
Quality and price ratings are now available together for maternity care,
hip and knee replacement, back pain, colon cancer screening, and diabetes.
In addition, actual prices paid in 18 California regions are listed for
another 99 different conditions.
Since consumers will care about what they have to pay themselves,
a webpage is available from which they can link over to the cost
calculator of their insurer to get the specific prices they will face.
Articles on the website will also explain things to consumers about how to shop for care. Please spread the word.
