| | | Smile In Style Dental Disease Prevention | | |  | Smile In Style (SIS) is a program of the Health Promotion and Education Bureau, Public Health Services. In fiscal year 2009-10, Smile In Style is the recipient of a grant from the Sierra Health Foundation's brightSMILES program and funding from the Solano County Board of Supervisors. | "Brush and floss every day to prevent gum disease and tooth decay." | ![]() | | Services | We provide dental disease prevention education in classrooms and dental sealant clinics at school sites with the greatest need and emphasize services in the non-fluoridated cities of Dixon, Suisun and Rio Vista. Our program provides all the materials we use in classrooms, including toothbrushes with covers, fluoride mouth rinse and dental rewards. We provide fluoride rinse or a fluoride varnish program to participating elementary school students in our nonfluoridated cities. We also provide services to Child Start Inc. (Head Start) where Smile In Style professional staff apply two applications of fluoride vanish to over 540 preschool children semiannually. | ![]() | | Program Contacts | For information, call Robin Cox at (707) 784-8634 rccox@solanocounty.com Fax: 707 421-6618 | ![]() | | Smile In Style Participants | With the support of our Solano County Board of Supervisors and school district administrators, teachers and school nurses, over 12,500 students from preschool through sixth grade throughout Solano County, participated in Smile In Style in fiscal year 2008-09. Each classroom received two, 45-minute visits. We also provide school site dental sealant clinics at schools where a large percentage of students receive free or subsidized lunches. In the 2008-09 school year, 612 students received 2,265 sealants on their molars to prevent tooth decay. | ![]() | | Who Is Eligible for Services? | | Students in selected Solano County schools, from kindergarten through sixth grade, are eligible for services when space in the program is available. | Since 1980, children throughout the county have received oral health instruction about plaque control, (tooth brushing and flossing), fluoride, nutrition, obesity prevention, injury prevention, tobacco prevention and the need for regular dental care.
