Bring binoculars, water and wear sturdy shoes. He'll bring a spotting scope for better viewing of migrating birds, especially raptors, from golden eagles to a wide variety of hawks, plus bluebirds, swallows, quail and a good selection of waterfowl at the reservoir. Past History In 1844 Governor Micheltorena of California granted General Mariano G. Vallejo the Rancho National Soscol which includes the Lynch Canyon Open Space as we know it today. The land was purchased, sold, and transferred many times over the next few years then around the 1920's the Matthew Lynch Family purchased the property and their name has been linked with the canyon every since. On November 19, 1993 the Solano Land Trust purchased the property to keep an open space buffer between the cities, protect the habitat and preserve the site for future generations. Lynch Canyon is defined by its steeply rolling hills, blanketed with grasslands and accented with groves of buckeyes and evergreen oaks. Lynch Creek drains this enclosed watershed and flows into Suisun Marsh. Grasslands, oak groves, riparian woodlands, and wetland meadows provide shelter and forage for deer, fox, bobcat, waterfowl, and many raptors. The 900-foot ridges offer panoramic views extending from the Coast Ranges to San Francisco Bay and across the Delta to the Sierra Nevada. | ![]() | | |
