|Skip Thomson - Supervisor District 5|
Welcome and thank you for visiting my webpage! As District 5 Supervisor, I am honored to represent the largest of the five districts, covering Rio Vista, Elmira Area and parts of Vacaville, Fairfield and Suisun City.
I am proud of our County and have served our community for more than 30 years. As County Supervisor from 1992 to 2002, I worked to balance our budget, protect Travis Air Force Base and strengthen our local economy. Later, as County Assessor from 2003 to 2005, I implemented cost-saving initiatives removing burdensome red-tape while improving daily operations.
As Supervisor, my policy priorities include:
- strengthening our County’s fiscal health
- protecting military families and Travis Air Force Base
- preserving and advocating for the Sacramento Delta and its residents
I am fully dedicated to improving our County’s fiscal health and understand the hardships that our County employees have faced as a result of reductions to their take-home pay and benefits. That is why I have voluntarily agreed to reduce my salary, waive my rights to longevity pay and dismiss other benefits to which supervisors are entitled.
Through leadership and collaboration with community stakeholders and my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, I am working to discover new ways to reduce avoidable spending while restoring the vital services that our community so desperately needs.
As the designee for the Board on the Delta Counties Coalition, I am also dedicated to preserving the Delta. I believe that the Delta is crucial to the livelihood of our rural, agricultural and urban communities. As the Board’s designee, I am continuing to press the federal government to commission an independent study that examines the full consequences of the proposed Bay Delta Conservation Plan on our community. Additionally, I am urging the federal government to explore all options concerning the Delta and adopt an option that benefits rather than harms our farmers and families.
I graduated from Fairfield High School and received an A.A. degree from Solano Community College. Later, I received a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Spanish from University of California, Davis. I served in the U.S. Army and am married to my high school sweetheart, Gail. We have two sons, Brandon and Loren. Brandon works for Congressman John Garamendi and Loren completed a tour of duty in Iraq with the California Infantry National Guard. Loren is now a deputy sheriff for the Solano County Sheriff’s Department.
I am honored and thankful to be your representative and appreciate the opportunity to serve you. Please feel free to contact me or my staff directly with any questions, comments or concerns. Better yet, feel free to stop by. My door will always remain open for you.
